Basic rules of communication with people with special educational problems
Just because someone has a disability or impairment does not mean that she or he needs help. Under normal circumstances, people with disabilities can usually get around just fine. Adults with disabilities want to be seen as adults, independent people. Offer help only if the person needs it. A person with a disability is more likely to let you know when they need help. And if you really want to help, ask how before you act.

New Year's master class from KhPI for special children
On December 11, NTU “KhPI” held a festive master class on creating New Year’s tree decorations from recycled materials, dedicated to St. Nicholas’ Day. The guests of the event were children with special needs – students of the 5th grade of the communal institution “Kharkiv special school named after V. G. Korolenko”. They were taught needlework by students and teachers of KhPI. The children decorated the Christmas tree with their products, and at the end of the master class they received sweet gifts.

KhPI scientists are the authors of the teaching methodology for hearing-impaired children
Associate Professor of the Department of Physics Ksenia Minakova, Associate Professor of the Department of Chemical Engineering and Industrial Ecology Tetyana Tikhomirova, as well as other scientists of the Kharkiv Polytechnic took part in the development of methods of teaching natural sciences to children with special needs. The result was the creation of the training manual “Inclusive education for hearing impairment”.

New social project of KhPI: Overcoming barriers
Young scientists and students of NTU “KhPI” implemented the social project “Inclusion in cooperation”. On September 29, they visited boarding schools in the Kharkiv region, where they planted more than 150 fruit bushes and trees. The purpose of the campaign is to promote tolerance and an inclusive approach in Ukrainian society, to overcome the barriers of social isolation of people with disabilities living in boarding schools.
