Inclusive education is the creation in a common space of a special approach to the education of a child with special educational needs. This approach involves additional elements of the educational process – an individual development plan for the child, a specially equipped place and appropriate conditions for it.
In 2001-2007, the MES piloted the project “Social adaptation and integration into society of children with special psychophysical development by organizing their education in general educational institutions.” It was then that the effective search for an answer to the question of how to integrate children with special needs into the general educational process began.
The second stage of the experiment was the Ukrainian-Canadian project “Inclusive education for children with special needs in Ukraine”, which lasted from 2008 to 2012. In order to support inclusive education in Ukraine, the “Inclusion Support Network” was created. School is for everyone.” The network brought together public organizations, parent groups, educational institutions and other institutions interested in promoting inclusive policy and inclusive education in Ukraine at all levels of society.
An important achievement was the “Index of Inclusion” – a selection of practical materials to help plan actions to create and develop an inclusive educational environment in educational institutions for all participants in the educational process. Today, the “Index of Inclusion” has been translated into 32 languages and is used in many countries around the world.
